4 Reasons That I Want to Try Zumba

Zumba is a great fitness idea that combines hard work with a lot of fun…and I haven’t tried it yet. I’ve tried Pilates, yoga, strength training, and many other forms of working out both in classes and on my own, incorporating these into my daily routines in combinations and singly dedicated sessions. However, Zumba is one that has escaped me so far. The following are a few reasons that I really want to try it.

Music Pumps Me Up

Music gets me going, so I use it constantly. I use music to focus, motivate, relax. The beats have a real effect on me and I know I’m not along because I see things like “workout playlist,” “housework playlist,” and so forth. Zumba incorporates music as a central point of the workout.

It May Help Me with Moves

I am a terrible dancer that can never get coordinated enough to do a cohesive dance for an entire song. This is probably part of the reason that I have avoided Zumba up to this point, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel in that Zumba may actually help me get better. In any case, I’ve heard it’s a great workout and a fun time even if you cannot perfect the moves, which is a relief.

It Burns Tons of Calories

A Zumba class is said to burn about 550 calories in 45-60 minutes. This is more intense than yoga, Pilates, or even kickboxing. I like to burn lots of calories in a short time, even better if I’m trying something new while doing so.

It Looks Like Fun


Zumba participants are usually sweating and smiling when they leave. The group atmosphere seems inviting and invigorating. Classes are offered all over the place, so I know I can find one easily. That’s it, I want in!
