Cardio Workouts Without the Gym

While there are many different types of workouts that can be done to burn fat and build strength, cardio workouts can help to increase the heart rate fast and get you on your way to a healthier body. These cardio workouts can be done anywhere, without the need for equipment, but watch out because the sweat factor may cause you to desire a shower afterward.

Mountain Climbers

To begin mountain climbers, get into a pushup position with arms straight out beneath the shoulders and toes on the floor. Make sure that the body is straight with the abs engaged and back flat. Raise the left knee towards the chest and place the balls of the left foot on the floor. Quickly switch legs, bringing the right knee up toward the chest and extending the left leg back. Alternate back and forth quickly for about thirty seconds, and then rest for about sixty seconds. Perform several repetitions for best results.

Skater Jumps

To begin skater jumps, start in a slightly bent over position with the right leg slightly behind the body and the left leg directly underneath the body. The right hand should be on the floor close to the left foot. Jump and quickly switch positions so that the left leg is behind the body and the right leg is directly below the body. Place the left hand next to the right leg for balance. Alternate back and forth as quickly as possible for about thirty seconds, and then rest for sixty seconds. Perform several repetitions for best results.

Jumping Jacks

Most everyone knows this classic cardio move. Begin with legs together and hands down by the sides. Jump, splitting the legs and raising the arms above the head until the palms of the hands touch. Jump again and return to the original position. Do as many jumping jacks as possible in thirty seconds, and then rest for sixty seconds. As with the other workouts, perform several repetitions for best results.
