Swimming: The Ultimate Cardio Workout

Many persons, especially those who are overweight or obese, will find that extended cardio workouts are difficult and painful. Not only is it hard to keep so much weight in motion, but the intensity of the workout can put strain on the joints and cause pain that will make you want to quit. The best way to avoid this is to use swimming as your cardio workout. When you swim, the water will support your weight, thus removing strain on your joints, feet and back. The water will cool you more rapidly and more effectively than the air, preventing overheating while you work out and letting you do it longer. Additionally, it’s not entirely necessary to swim in order to get a full workout. Aquatic Aerobics, originally developed for persons undergoing physical therapy, is now available for all ages and intensities and is offered as a program at most public pools.
